The presentation of the 2020 B3000+ Awards!! And the winner is …

By Wendi Dawson

What do you do in the face of adversity? You innovate, you pivot, but most of all, the show must go on!

On the evening of Thursday, September 17, the Melbourne Business Network hosted the 2020 B3000+ Awards presentation ceremony online. The B3000+ Awards celebrate the success and achievements of businesses and entrepreneurs contributing to the economic development of the City of Melbourne.

Joining the celebrations were Lord Mayor Sally Capp, Deputy Lord Mayor Arron Wood, director of Small Business Victoria Barbara Cullen, Victorian Small Business Commissioner Judy O’Connell, Small Business Mentoring Service CEO David Gregory and, of course, our MC, international author and keynote speaker Chris Helder.

Despite the challenges 2020 has presented to all of us, it was an impressive and diverse field of finalists. The ultimate award winners were:

Young Entrepreneur: Tenille Gilbert of Society Melbourne.
Society Melbourne is a group of hospitality social enterprises dedicated to eliminating youth homelessness in Melbourne by investing profits in programs that support young people at-risk gain valuable employability skills.

Female Entrepreneur: Caroline Bell of Summerhill Invest.
Summerhill Invest helps Australians build their own highly customised, low-cost investment portfolios online.

Alan Knipe Innovation:  Omer Molad and Vervoe.
Vervoe is a computer software company that helps employers make hiring decisions based on how well candidates could do the job rather than how good they look on paper.

New Business: Tony James and Digital Fox Talent.
Digital Fox Talent unites entertainment influencers and “geeky” content creators with world-class brands.

Business of the Year: Vervoe.
It is also important to recognise that these awards would not be possible without the support of our sponsors:  City of Melbourne, WebOracle, Business Authorities, Advancing Women in Business and Sport, StarRez Inc., and Northbridge Capital. Equally, it’s important to acknowledge the number of organisations that contributed to the great collection of prizes each winner received.

On a personal note, I was overwhelmed by the gratitude, sense of community and fun that we all shared on the night. It was so good to be together and celebrate. Melbourne is truly a remarkable city filled with amazingly talented and inspiring people.
