Stay safe, say police

CBD police have reminded people to know their limitations so everyone can enjoy the festive season.

City East Police Station commander Snr-Sgt Dale Huntington said there were three main factors to consider:  Planning a night out, staying safe and being wary of excessive alcohol.

Snr-Sgt Huntington advised people to plan how they were getting home before they went out.

“Don’t turn a night out into a nightmare,” he said. He said friends needed to keep an eye out for each other as there were many dangerous situations, which needed to be avoided.

“Throughout summer extra police will be designated for Operation Safe Streets on Friday and Saturday nights, patrolling streets and around licensed venues and transport hubs,” Snr-Sgt Huntington said.

“In conjunction with our CBD stakeholders, we will endeavour to ensure a safe and friendly environment for everyone coming into the city.”

He also warned that infringement notices of  $590 for being drunk in a public place and similar fines for summary offences would be strictly enforced.
