The Degraves St and Elizabeth St subways to Flinders Street Station will get a major facelift to improve safety, accessibility and comfort.
The upgrades include cleaning and restoration of the heritage tiles, lighting improvements and replacement of the metal partition fencing down the centre of Elizabeth St underpass with a glazed pedestrian screen.
The number of myki readers will double at the Degraves St exit to allow for additional passenger flow.
Each train line will have its own colour for easy navigation at Flinders Street Station, a first in Melbourne.
A new Yarra River Entrance will be opened to provide direct access from Southbank’s Riverside Walk to Platform 10.
“The new Yarra entrance and upgrades to the subways will help ease congestion and improve access for all Victorians,” Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan said.
