Plenty of planning bids

Planning applications have not slowed down in Melbourne compared with the previous year.

From 2016 to 2017, 1264 applications were received by the City of Melbourne, nearly identical with the 1265 received in the year before.

Some 902 permits were issued and 126 amended permits were granted between 2016 and 2017. Between 2013 and 2015 an average of 1325 applications were received and 954 permits were issued each year.

The City of Melbourne’s planning portfolio chair Nicholas Reece told a Residents 3000 forum in November that the number of planning applications remained relatively strong.

“In terms of the number of applications being received, the numbers do seem to be holding up around the city. There are lots of talks around developments going to fall off the cliff in the city, with changes around foreign investments and inflated housing market and that the market is really slowing,” Cr Reece said.

“As far as applications go, the numbers are down marginally, but it still looks like a pretty strong market,” he said.
