Man charged following fatal CBD assault 

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives on May 16 charged a 26-year-old man following a fatal assault in  Melbourne’s CBD earlier last month.

The assault occurred on Russell St near the corner of Flinders Lane on Saturday 6 May about 11.45pm.

A 22-year-old Werribee man was allegedly punched and fell to the ground before being taken to hospital where he died on Friday, May 12.

A 26-year-old Ocean Grove man has been charged with manslaughter, intentionally causing serious injury and recklessly causing serious injury.

Detectives are keen to speak to anyone that may have witnessed the assault.

Investigators would also like to speak to anyone that was at the Cherry Bar on ACDC Lane prior to the assault between 10.15pm and 11.45pm.
