Library transformed

On the night of Friday, May 12, teens ran through the halls of the State Library of Victoria discovering hidden clues and secrets.

Presented by LaTrobe University and the State Library, Poison Cabinet is the only event of its kind in Australia.

Aimed at teaching students real-life skills in a unique way, Poison Cabinet transformed the library for two hours into a giant maze where students must work together to complete challenges and crack codes.

The night’s challenges were mainly related to the disciplines of science, media and communications, archaeology, English literature and engineering and were developed in consultation with LaTrobe University academics.

Describing Poison Cabinet as “learning by stealth”, director of library services and experience, Justine Hyde, was excited for the event to return to the State Library.

“The Poison Cabinet is an immersive adventure that enables students to experience the library in a whole new way. It uses an escape-room style format to enable students to develop skills such as team-work and problem solving,” she said.
