Let The Lonely Sock do the work for you

Father and son-in-law duo Kevin Bevans and Danny Wheeler understand the fast pace of the CBD and its residents.

So when it comes to after-work laundry duties, they’re happy to do the work for you.

The Lonely Sock at 11 Rose Lane, opposite Southern Cross Station, is a brand new purpose built laundrette that Mr Wheeler says is catering to a forgotten market.

“The CBD residential population is growing at about 6 per cent per annum,” he said.

“We identify this service as a forgotten service that isn’t readily available in the CBD and that was one of the major factors in us deciding to set up here.  If we can work with everyone who lives here well, that’s just a bonus for everybody.”

Recognising that fewer and fewer people are carrying cash these days, Mr Bevans and Mr Wheeler have installed brand new, large capacity, entirely cashless machines throughout The Lonely Sock. Customers can pay by credit card, debit or MasterCard, Visa, Paywave or Apple Pay.

“The prices of machines in laundrettes now makes it difficult to use coins. Everything is restricted to a dollar so people are bothering local vendors for change and change machines get broken into all the time. The security aspect of going cashless is a lot better too,” Mr Bevans said.

Creating a bright, colourful and comfortable user experience, The Lonely Sock also features free WiFi and internet access, a television, multiple device charging points, modern furniture and a book swap – all set against a living wall garden.

The book swap aims to create a relaxed environment for everyone, including the multicultural residents of the Upper West Side Midtown Tower apartments that The Lonely Sock sits next to.

“We want to get some Chinese and Vietnamese and French books in here as well. We want to cater to everyone,” Mr Bevans said.

Everyone, indeed. The Lonely Sock also cares for short-stay apartment owners and customers through its commercial laundry service.

Understanding that time is of the essence, customers seeking serviced washing can drop their items to The Lonely Sock before midday for same day service. Dry cleaning items can be dropped off before midday for a two-day service. Ironing is also available.

To ensure no one is left standing and waiting, customers of The Lonely Sock can receive updates on not only the status of their laundry, but also when a machine has become free. All you need to provide is your email address and let Mr Bevans and Mr Wheeler take care of the rest.

The Lonely Sock is open seven days a week, from 7am-10pm, with staff there until 6pm Monday – Friday excluding public holidays.  The laundrette is monitored through video surveillance 24 hours a day.

Residents of the Upper West Side apartments have 24/7 card access.

As an introductory offer, The Lonely Sock is offering washing from just $5 and drying from just $4, and every customer receives a free washing bag on arrival!
