It’s time to show your True Colours

Raising awareness about the importance of donating blood has always been at the heart of the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood.

And now the Lifeblood Melbourne Blood Donor Centre on Collins St is calling on more local donors to help make a difference.

Pushing for more blood and plasma donations by November 14, Lifeblood has collaborated with six Australian artists to design limited-edition bandages as a part of their “True Colours” campaign.

The artists contributing their time for the cause are Ken Done, Kaylene Whiskey, Eric Bridgeman, Frances Cannon, David Booth and Vipoo Srivilasa.

“When you give blood, you are in fact helping all of Australia. I wanted my design to reflect that thought,” Ken Done said.

The creative-led campaign not only aims to proudly boast about their donors’ generosity, but to also encourage new donors to be a part of the rewarding and life-saving movement.

“The True Colours campaign is a chance for new donors to join our ranks and not just feel good, but show they are doing good too,” local spokesperson Wendy Todd said.

While Wendy acknowledging the generosity of Melburnians giving “over 71,000 donations in the past 12 months”, she urged people to understand the importance of the continual fight.

At the moment, blood donations are needed every 24 seconds in Australia. So, Wendy is encouraging locals within the City of Melbourne to continue to do an “act of altruism”.

She said donating and sporting a bandage was not only a humble gesture, but a symbol of health and generosity.

“We hope these fun and stylish bandages will encourage donors to do good, look good and feel good about their life-giving donation,” she said.

With bandages available until November 14, now is the time to show your true colours!
