Festival of Steve

By Sarah Harrison

Gentlemen, get those beards ready – the Festival of Steve is back for another year.

A celebration of the modern man, the Festival of Steve returns to Melbourne on May 23 and is looking more handsome than ever before.

Held at the classic Kelvin Club, this festival of menfolk will feature a collection of Melbourne’s finest fashion and lifestyle masters, street art from BabyGuerilla, tastings, dude food and DJ entertainment from Andrew McClelland.

There’ll also be a series of expert panel discussions exploring a variety of men’s related topics.

Panellists will include bespoke tailor, Carl Nave, owner of Lord Coconut, Mark Boldiston, and Sally Mackinnon, men’s stylist at Styled by Sally.

Settle in with a whisky and a trim while you enjoy services and wares from a comprehensive list of exhibitors, including Belmore Shoes, Carl Nave, Clementines, Drink this City, Embiggen Books, Fokus, Genesis, Mr.Farfalle presented by Harold & Maude, Lord Coconut, Mattt, Melbournalia, Men & Co., Men’s Biz, Mork Chocolates, Mr Wares, Oscar hunt, Styled by Sally, Vanessa Lucas – Ceramics, and Wondersnack.

Hosted by the Melbourne City Precinct, entry is free, with the party kicking off from midday.

Mother’s Day in town

The city has a beautiful, calm vibe on Sundays which makes it an ideal destination for celebrating Mum’s Day.

While we can appreciate her every day, Mother’s Day helps us officially recognise and thank the person we call mum - and the city has you covered.

Get your joggers on and participate in the Mother’s Day Classic to walk or run your way towards honouring those touched by breast cancer while raising money for research.

Afterwards, enjoy an a la carte Italian lunch or dinner at Campari House and get a free glass of Chandon Rose for mum with any dessert.

Pamper her at one of the city’s many day spas like Orchid Day Spa on Hardware Lane or Miss Fox on Little Collins St which offers the Arabian Gold Indulgence Ritual over the course of 6.5 hours.

Or book her a slice of the sweet life with a fabulous Sunday high tea at venues around town such as Om Nom on Flinders Lane, Little Collins Street Kitchen (featuring La Belle Miette macarons) or at the Market Lane Bar within Rialto.

For indulgence and down time, you needn’t look further than the city this Mother’s Day.

Ethical shopping at Markit@FedSquare

Get down to Federation Square on Sunday, May 24 for some serious art and craft market action with over 100 creative and talented souls showcasing and selling a range of jewellery, homewares, clothing, ceramics, stationery and artwork and prints.

Making this even better, all products being either handmade or ethically and sustainably manufactured using locally sourced materials, you could never feel guilty for this kind of retail therapy.

From 10am to 5pm.
