Chinatown Comedy Club launches

The Chinatown Comedy Club opened with two sold-out launch parties on July 3 at the Museum of Chinese Australian History in Cohen Place.

Some of Melbourne’s best Asian comedians featured in the line-up for the debut.

Opening night host and Melbourne International Comedy Festival standout Harry Jun said comedians were “stoked” to perform as part of the new event.

“Audiences can expect the best Asian comedians in town, big laughs, and maybe you’ll even catch the next big name in comedy before they get huge,” Mr Jun said.

Though the CBD is no stranger to live comedy, the regular event will aim to provide a monthly showcase for Asian comedic talent hosted across a range of unique Chinatown venues.

Melbourne Chinatown Business Association event lead Ngoc Le said the organisation was thrilled with the success of the launch events.

“The support from the community and the City of Melbourne has been incredible,” Ms Le said.

“We look forward to many more nights of laughter and community building.”

The launch nights sold out quickly and were attended by representatives from the City of Melbourne, community leaders and supporters of the Chinatown community.

Food and drinks were on hand thanks to sponsors St Anne’s Winery, and restaurants EziStreet and Shanghai Village.

The Club’s August line up is expected to be announced soon.
