Emergency services memorial to be installed

A Victorian Emergency Services Memorial will be installed at Treasury Gardens to commemorate the lives lost while serving the community.

Emergency service organisations in Victoria, including Country Fire Authority, Metropolitan Fire Brigade, Ambulance Victoria, Forest Fire Management Victoria, Victorian State Emergency Services and Life Saving Victoria, will be recognised at the memorial.

City of Melbourne councillors passed the initiative unanimously at the April 3 Future Melbourne Committee meeting.

Cr Cathy Oke commended the effort gone into designing and building the memorial.

“I believe it’s incredibly detailed work that’s gone into this, preparing and determining the memorial. A memorial is complex, there are lots of rules and regulations and lots of emotions,” she said.

“I think some Victorians would love the opportunity to pay their respect to volunteers who have lost their lives and unfortunately will probably continue to lose their lives protecting Victorians,” Cr Oke said.
