Date night reimagined

Date night reimagined

April is as good a time as ever to expand your horizons so why not swap out your local tried-and-tested for something a little different on date night this month?

Think of it as an opportunity to tick off the unfailing “try something new” annotation on your new year resolution list.

Instead of dinner and a movie, why not try channelling your inner peace at an Asthanga yoga class or (silent) dancing your way through the CBD? Our city plays host to an array of eclectic events that are bound to satisfy all types and tastes, from the culture vulture to the gastronome to the forever curious. To whet your appetite and open your mind to the possibilities, here’s a selection of what’s happening around town this month.

Farmers’ Markets

For foodies and Masterchef enthusiasts, the Goldsbrough Lane and CK Farmers’ Markets are a sure-fire winner and a feast for the senses. The CK Farmers’ Market at The Grand Hyatt is about to wrap up – catch it before it finishes up on April 6 – but the Goldsbrough Lane Market is running weekly until December. Pick up your produce direct from the farm and stay in for a home cooked feast! Goldsbrough Lane Market

Yoga in the City

Feel the stress and anxiety of the work day melt away as you relax into an Asthanga yoga class led by Jennifer Castillo at the Multicultural Hub. Entry by gold coin donation, this economical date night option will improve your flexibility, wellbeing and is a great way to de-stress at the end of the day. Don’t forget to bring your own mat and water. Multicultural Hub Melbourne, 9092 1500.

Melbourne Queer Film Festival

Catch a flick at Australia’s largest and longest-running LGBTI-themed film event this month at the 26th annual Melbourne Queer Film Festival. The MQFF presents more than 100 films over 12 days at ACMI in Federation Square. The festival showcases the best in LGBTI features, shorts and documentaries from across the world.

Guru Dudu’s Silent Disco

Don a pair of supplied headphones and follow Guru Dudu on a silent disco through the CBD to a soundtrack of uplifting tunes from the 70s, 80s and 90s combined with hilarious commentary. With spontaneous flash mobbing, interpretive grooving and eccentric improvisation guaranteed, this will be the most liberating and enjoyable walking (dancing) tour you’ve ever been on.

With something different happening every night of the week, the only problem you’ll encounter now is narrowing down the shortlist!
