Crime rate has dropped

Crime rate in the CBD decreased last year, according to Crime Statistics Agency.

In 2017, a total of 16,293 criminal incidents were recorded in the CBD, down from 17,662 in 2016.

Among all the crimes, property and deception offences have dropped from 9476 in 2016 to 8673 in 2017 and assault and theft related offences are down from 2728 to 2035 in that period.

Crimes in the CBD reached an all-time high in 2016.

The most crime committed in postcode 3000 was property and deception offences, making up around half of all crimes.

In the property and deception category, 5482 incidents were recorded for theft and 1765 were recorded for deception.

Other popular crimes include assault, drug use and possession of drug, disorderly and offensive conduct and breaches of orders.

The CBD still has the highest number of crimes within the City of Melbourne.
